Dr. Herbert Edelsbrunner, PhD

Dr. Herbert Edelsbrunner is a co-founder of Geomagic and a member of the Board of Directors. He is a pioneer and world-leading expert in the fields of algorithms, computational geometry, and combinatorial topology. Dr. Edelsbrunner was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences' 2005 class of Fellows and is the only computer scientist to have been awarded the prestigious Waterman Award (1991) from the National Science Foundation. He is responsible for the mathematical theory behind Alpha Shapes™, Geomagic Shape and Geomagic Wrap, which are the unique theoretical underpinnings of the company's products, and he continues to advance research in related areas. He has been awarded numerous government and industrial grants to fund further development of his work. Dr. Edelsbrunner has published more than 100 research papers in refereed journals or conference proceedings and authored two books. Dr Edelsbrunner is an Art and Science Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at Duke University. He holds MS and PhD degrees in technical mathematics from the Technical University of Graz, Austria.

Dr. Tamás Várady, DSc, PhD

Dr. Tamás Várady, DSc, PhD

Dr. Tamás Várady is a key advisor to Geomagic on CAD surfacing and leads the company's development team in Hungary. Dr. Várady was President of Cadmus Consulting LLC, a pioneer in developing new methods for computer-aided geometric design, until the company was acquired by Geomagic in October 2003. He directed the geometric modeling laboratory for 20 years and now he is a senior research fellow at the Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where he earned his doctorate degrees. Dr. Várady is a member of the editorial board of the Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Geometric Design Journals, and the author or co-author of 72 research papers, 53 of which have been published in refereed journals or conference proceedings.
